Southgate offers many opportunities to serve Here, Near, and Far. We believe all followers of Jesus are called to offer their gifts to the body of believers HERE in our congregation, NEAR to the local community as a beacon of light, and FAR through the support of missions efforts in all the world.

Hospitality Ministries
- Greeting Ministry
We want to make Southgate a place of worship where all feel welcome and that begins the moment you walk in. A greeter is a friendly face who can help a visitor, or longtime members, feel like they belong.
- Coffee Ministry
Members of this group volunteer to set up and clean up Sunday morning coffee pots for anyone to enjoy during class or worship.
- Bulletin Boards Ministry
Volunteers of this ministry are able to use their creativity to decorate one of many bulletin boards throughout the building. Typically, these are updated quarterly and materials are provided in the teacher work room.
- Photo Backdrop Ministry
When holidays or special events roll around, we want to remember the time with photos of our family members. A volunteer in this ministry would plan and set up a photo backdrop appropriate to the holiday or special event.
- Communion Preparation Ministry
This ministry is a rotation of volunteers who, before worship service on Sunday morning, retrieve the cups from the baptistery refrigerator and fill the baskets by the auditorium doors.
- Building and Grounds Maintenance
Though there are deacons who maintain the grounds and building, there is certainly room for help in any area. Southgate is a large campus with many different maintenance needs and if you have a specialty area you would like to offer, this is the ministry for you.
Meal Ministries
- Rust St. Meal Team
Rust St. Ministries is a center that helps those struggling in our San Angelo community in many practical ways. One of those services is a meal served at Neighbor’s Café. Volunteering for this opportunity means working one day a month from about 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. providing warm, nurturing meals to people experiencing food uncertainty.
- Funeral Meal Team
Times of loss are hard on friends and families so Southgate hopes to offer comfort through a meal following a funeral or memorial. When you serve on a funeral meal team, you have the opportunity to give the bereaved time to reminisce and comfort one another while we take care of their physical needs. Funeral meal team members can bring food but the main focus is on set-up, service, and clean-up of the event.
- Potluck Meal Team
Is there any better way to get to know someone than over a full plate? Potlucks are a wonderful opportunity to get to know the family here at Southgate after Sunday worship. There are four potluck meal teams here at Southgate who each serve one potluck yearly. We are looking for leaders of potluck teams as well as volunteers who love to serve. Potluck meal team members can bring food, but the main focus is on set-up, service, and clean-up of the event one Sunday a year.
- College Supper
College Supper is an opportunity to help our young adults as they get their feet under them, either studying or getting out on their own. A College Supper volunteer provides a meal and helps serve the food at the Southgate building on Wednesday before class.
Connections Ministries
- Seen and Known Ministry
Have you ever noticed someone missing from our family and wondered what happened to them? Are you able to use a phone? Then the Seen and Known ministry might be for you. The Seen and Known ministry is a new way to check in and help others carry their burdens. Periodically, the Seen and Known team will reach out to every family in Southgate to check in and make sure that everyone feels seen and known.
- Bible Bowl Buddies
The Bible Bowl is a regional event, hosted by Southgate, where youth kids participate in a friendly competition to test their Biblical knowledge and get connected with youth in the Kingdom. As a Bible Bowl Buddy, you can help our youth with their training and serve as a mentor and encouragement through gift giving and intentional time together. If you would like to be part of the village that brings up the next generation, then Bible Bowl Buddies is for you!
- Leadership Training for Christ (LTC)
North Texas Leadership Training for Christ (NTLTC) equips young Christians to develop their biblical knowledge, enhance leadership and communication skills, and direct their talents toward active Christian service. Through diverse activities like sermon presentations, group singing, puppet shows, and skits, youth learn to use their God-given gifts for the Kingdom, with just as many opportunities for adults to serve as coaches, coordinators, or event chaperones in Dallas. - Communion with Shut-ins
Some of our brothers and sisters are not able to leave their home to worship, but Southgate can bring a small semblance of fellowship to their house and share communion.
- Women’s Ministry
Our women’s ministry primarily consists of a weekly Bible study on Wednesday mornings. There are many other opportunities to serve such as card mailing and dinners but there is plenty of room for expansion as well.
Community Ministries
- Loving Hands
Can you mow lawns, trim trees, or clear gutters? Are you able to drive someone to an appointment or help someone move? Then Loving Hands is the ministry for you. If you have a service to offer, you can be added to a call list and when the Church is made aware of a need, we know who to send their way.
- Van Driving
There are a number of our brothers and sisters who are unable to drive themselves to worship on Sunday mornings. Southgate owns a minivan which we use to go to where they are and bring them to be a part of the family on Sundays. If you have a driver’s license and would like to make sure anyone who wants to come to worship has the chance to, then this is the ministry for you!
- World Bible School (WBS)
World Bible School provides free, scripture-focused courses to people everywhere through online lessons and postal mail. By stepping in as a WBS Study Helper, you become a mentor, prayer partner, and friend to genuine seekers. You’ll review their answers, provide personal feedback, and help guide them along their journey to Christ.

How do I volunteer?
Use the the button above to locate the volunteer sign up form. Once you have shared your interests and gifts, our Connections Minister will reach out to you to help you engage in service.
How do I volunteer with kids?
Children are one of our most precious gifts from the Lord. It is no small charge to teach and train them in The Word and we always need more willing individuals. If you love God and love children please consider joining them in the classroom and investing in their development of faith. Contact our Connections Minister to Learn more.
How do I volunteer to teach?
We can always use more teachers. If you have an interest studying The Word and sharing your understanding with adults, please conatct our Connections Minister and he will gladly get you scheduled to teach.
How do I volunteer with students?
Youth Ministry is a rewarding (and fun) ministry to be a part of. Opportunities abound to teach, sponsor, and host events and bible studies. If you would like to know more contact our Youth Minister and He will be glad to have you join the team!
